(CNS): Ogier has named Lashonda Powell this year’s scholarship recipient. The law firm reviewed a large number of qualified applicants and then narrowed the field down to a short list. As part of the application process, all of the students on that list were offered internships at the firm over the summer. During her internship, Ogier said Powell stood out as the most talented and promising.

She will be heading to the University of Sheffield to do her legal practice course (LPC), having completed a bachelor of laws degree (honours) from the University of Liverpool and a bachelor’s of science in psychology and political science (honours) from the University of Toronto. Powell has also undertaken several challenging courses such as the London School of Economics summer course in advanced negotiation and mediation, and the Stetson University College of Law Caribbean Law Clinic.

She has earned a Duke of Edinburgh gold award and serves as assistant leader for the Girls’ Brigade at Savannah United Church.

Emma Graham-Taylor, Ogier human resource manager, said, “Lashonda has proven herself to be a sincere and diligent individual. The senior associate who mentored her during her internship provided very positive feedback on her performance, noting that she is insightful, inquisitive and keen to learn.”

Ogier regional managing partner James Bergstrom, added, “I am very pleased to have Lashonda as this year’s scholarship recipient. She impressed several members of our team and I am confident that she will continue to excel.”

In expressing her appreciation, Powell said, “I am very grateful to Ogier for this scholarship, which will assist me greatly in my goal of becoming a lawyer.”
