(CNS Local Life): Telecommunications provider Flow has donated a phone to be auctioned to raise funds at the fourth annual “Hannah’s Heroes” event that will take place on Friday, 23 September at the Wicket in Cricket Square.  All money raised goes to the St Baldrick’s Foundation, whose mission is to fund research to find cures for childhood cancer.

Cayman residents Gaylene and Nigel Meeson conceived the idea for the event to raise awareness about childhood cancer, after their daughter Hannah was diagnosed in 2012 with anaplastic medulloblastoma, a type of brain cancer. Hannah’s Heroes is a Hero Fund of St Baldrick’s, the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research in the US. More than US$1 million has been raised from the first three Hannah’s Heroes head-shaving events.

Since its inception in 2004, St Baldrick’s has awarded more than US$100 million in childhood cancer research grants, with two named in Hannah’s honour.
