(CNS Local Life): The non-profit Jabez Foundation recently donated funds to the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) paediatric department to purchase a Welch Allyn Spot Vital Signs Device. The model selected, with appropriate paediatric accessories, works in seconds to measure temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and oxygen saturation in the blood. Jeana Ebanks of the foundation explained the reason for the US$2,722 donation.

“As a charity that advocates for children and with this year’s focus being on child health we enquired as to the immediate needs of the paediatric unit and selected the item that we believed would have a far-reaching impact throughout the unit,” she said in an HSA press release.

The department head, Dr Earl Robinson, said his unit was “heartened by the willingness of non-profit organisations, community groups and private institutions who partner with the hospital to enhance the quality of care provided to our paediatric patients. In this instance, we are delighted and appreciative of the generous contribution by the Jabez Foundation”.

With is own dedicated device, the paediatric clinic can ensure the efficient measuring of vital signs – for screening purposes in healthy patients and to assess the severity of illness in the acutely or chronically ill patients.

The Jabez Foundation said it expects the device will be the first of many contributions.

“We say a big thank you to the Jabez Foundation and will ensure prudent care and maintenance of this costly equipment. We look forward to partnering in other ventures in the future,” Robinson added.
