(CNS Local Life): The annual Poppy Appeal kicked off Monday, 10 October when Governor Helen Kilpatrick met with members of the Cayman Islands Veterans Association. Former US Marine Shadden McLaughlin continued the annual tradition of pinning the governor with the appeal’s first poppy and Kilpatrick also made the first donation into a collection box.

The ceremony to launch the appeal took place in the lobby of the Government Administration Building, where there will be a collection until the campaign closes on Remembrance Sunday, 13 November.

All money raised in the Poppy Appeal goes towards welfare for veterans in the Cayman Islands. Donations can be made to collection boxes at many locations in Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands.
