Alpha Leos taking oath of commitment at John Gray High School

(CNS Local Life): The Lions Club of Grand Cayman (LCGC) has chartered a school-based Alpha Leos Club with 32 John Gray High School students. Visiting district governor Lion Errol Lee initiated seven club officers and installed 25 members in the presence of fellow students, teachers and Lions. Members were vested and pinned, and Leo president Raphael McKenzie was presented with the gong and gavel to be used when presiding over meetings.

Alpha Leo Clubs, designed for youth between 12 and 18 years old, focus on the individual and social development of teens and preteens giving young people the opportunity to serve their communities and make a positive impact. They offer a way to have fun, make new friends and develop valuable leadership skills.

Lions Club president Tannya Mortimer said the LCGC was proud of the initiatives undertaken by past president Rayle Roberts along with the dedication of Lions who have made the Alpha Leos Club a reality.

‘The club would also like to thank the dedicated teachers at John Gray who supported this initiative and would like to encourage interested students to contact their Leo Club representatives or Ms. Patricia Forbes to find out more on how to become a member,” Mortimer said.

In addition to installing McKenzie as president, members of the club board of directors are Hannah Robinson (first vice president); Toni-Ann Daley (secretary); Virginia Williams (treasurer); and Adrian Powery, Selena Robinson and Vai’ Ann Hamilton (directors).
