Looking for a Buddhist service

| 15/11/2016

I am a Buddhist. Where can I meet other Buddhists and is there a place of worship here?

Auntie’s answer: One of the nicest things about Cayman is how multicultural our little island is, with the 135 nationalities that live here belying its small size and population. There is also a variety of choices when it comes to worshipping, with many different Christian denominations having their own churches, along with Jewish, Muslim and Hindu services available, even though the latter three have tiny populations represented here.

As for a Buddhist presence, unfortunately, I have had difficulty answering your question. From what I can find, the actual number of Buddhists who live here is hard to quantify, though it seems to be well less than 1% of the population.

But I am not ready to give up so I am asking through this column that anyone with information on the Buddhist community and a place of worship to comment here. I am hoping that someone may be able to help you.

And the voodooists and the satanists?

Please put that in the form of a question, or lose the question mark.

Oh, 2.55am, come off your high horse as you are not qualified to join the Grammar Gestapo. The punctuation of the post above is absolutely acceptable. The post obviously flows from the question in the headline and makes logical and grammatical sense in that context. Just imagine, and you may have limited imagination which would explain your post, reading a rising inflection into the OP. See! It works does it not?

Well. What you have written is certainly impressive. High indignation. I am so ashamed.
However you seemed to have missed my point: What to hell is the person even asking? “And the voodooist and the astonish?” What?
What what? Nothing about grammar here mom. Just wondering if the poster has Tourettes?-;:&!

The reason the point may have been missed is that you worded your post so badly. If you had any knowledge of recent political history of the Islands you would know exactly the point that was being made.

    Why are you a Buddhist?

    • Anonymous says:

For me, it is a very pure and very practical practice. You read or listen to words, but then through meditation you investigate and learn for yourself. You need, and should not take the teachings just because someone says something.
And the big answer: It brings real and lasting happiness….. but don’t take my word for it.
BTW, I am not the original poster.

Perhaps if there are enough interested people, some sort of group sitting could be arranged.

Since when do Buddhists worship anything?

    • Anonymous says:

Like anything. Some do, some don’t.
Most respect the Buddha nature, the Buddhist community and of course the Buddhist teachings.

I too am a non-religious practicing Buddhist, so am not aware of any meetings or services.

Its easier to just move to a Buddhist country.
This way when you enjoy the good life of Cayman Islands, the Politicians do not have to be forced to succumb to another racial slander. Or better yet, just practice it in your home. Or even better, visit a few churches, learn the local way of life, (not jamaican, but caymanian), learn to adapt and support the local communities. Be a good Buddhist. People will see that and next thing you know everyone wants to be a Buddhist.
    Problem solved.

As a Buddhist practitioner, I approve of your answer. Well some of it.

I have had a similar query myself. I am a Jainist that also follows aspects of Hinduism and Buddhism. I have too been looking for a place to go or at least people I can connect with.

I follow buddhist teachings but am not aware of any service or worship.
