NDC Purple Bus ready to roll for the holidays

| 08/12/2016

CNS Local Life(CNS Local Life): The National Drug Council (NDC) is once again organising the New Year’s Eve Purple Ribbon Bus service along with its designated-driver programme to reduce the risk of anyone drinking and then getting behind the wheel this holiday season. Both parts of this anti-drink driving campaign rely on community and corporate support and while many local businesses have come on board the NDC is looking for additional sponsorships.

The designated-driver initiative is run in conjunction with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, ecaytrade.com, Radio Cayman and Mourant Ozannes.

This will mark the 16th year of the New Year’s Eve bus service, which encourages revellers who will be drinking to leave their cars home and instead take advantage of free rides on specific routes covering Grand Cayman. The buses will pick up passengers at all major restaurants, bars, nightclubs and bus stops.

Under the designated-driver programme, restaurants will offer complimentary non-alcoholic beverages to patrons who volunteer to drive their drinking friends when they go out over the holidays. Designated drivers will be given a wristband identifying them. To date, 47 restaurants, bars and clubs have signed on to participate in this initiative.

This is something that should be available not just on NYE but on Friday nights as well throughout the year.
