Nancy Whitefield accepts HSA’s gift of appreciation on behalf of the Pink Ladies

(CNS Local Life): After 35 years of service to the Cayman Islands Hospital and the wider community, the popular Pink Ladies Coffee Shop officially closed Friday, 16 December. The Health Services Authority (HSA) and Ministry of Health bid the group farewell at an event that afternoon where its members, as well as former staff of the coffee shop, were treated to tea.

HSA CEO Lizzette Yearwood described the farewell function as “bittersweet”, adding, “While we are here to celebrate the years of wonderful service the staff and volunteers of the Pink Ladies Corp have provided us, we are also here to say our farewell to a group that has been just as much a part of the HSA family as our staff members.”

Councillor of Health and Financial Services Roy McTaggart and Chief Officer of the Ministry Health Jennifer Ahearn also attended the event.

“I thank you for your many years of selfless service, your smiles, your kind words, your hard work and your commitment to making Cayman a better place,” McTaggart said. “I hope you leave this place understanding how many mouths you have fed, how many lives you’ve touched and how much you will be missed.”

He added, “It is with great sadness that we say goodbye, but we know that we will continue to see you as you remain active within our community through initiatives such as your popular annual Christmas Tea and Bazaar.”

In addition to the tea party the Pink Ladies were presented with a gift of appreciation, a cake and a guestbook with farewell messages from HSA staff members and health ministry representatives.

It was an afternoon of recognition, rest and relaxation for the ladies who saw their roles reversed as HSA staff, including Yearwood, served them food and refreshments.

In accepting the gift on behalf of the Pink Ladies, Nancy Whitefield said, “Ever since the Pink Ladies started the coffee shop, ‘service’ has been our main objective.”

Yearwood added, “The Pink Ladies love to serve the community and today is their day to be served as we show them how much we appreciate all they have done here at the HSA.”
