(CNS Local Life): Cayman’s representatives at the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) have finished the five-day tournament without medals but have set Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association (CIASA) and national records in various events. The international competition was held 6-11 December in the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario. The three swimmers – Lauren Hew, Alison Jackson and Alex McCallum – also set new personal bests in their races.

The three joined more than 900 swimmers, representing 170 national federations. Many competitors also participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

Michael Lockwood, CIASA president, said of the athletes’ performances, “Cayman was well represented”, adding, “Lauren, Alex and Ali competed on the world stage, turned in multiple lifetime best swims and set new CIASA and Cayman Islands national records. The experience they gained has whet their appetites to continue competing at this level, and with continued hard work, commitment and training, I see no reason why they will not do so again.”

The team – including manager Sandy Hew and Lockwood – has returned to Cayman, minus Hew, who headed back to school at St Andrews in Florida and technical director Bailey Weathers, who will be visiting family in the US.
