(CNS Local Life): A local firm has donated US$20,000 and toys to the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre (CICC) through its annual Christmas fundraiser. HighWater Limited raised the money and gifts through the generosity of colleagues in the fund industry, who were invited to a Champagne breakfast ahead of the holiday. The firm also treated more than 120 children to a viewing of the movie Moana, with free popcorn and a drink.

HighWater asked attendees for financial donations alongside the coordination of a toy drive for the benefit of those who take shelter from domestic violence at the Crisis Centre. The toys and gifts collected included a giant kangaroo, a chemistry set and a large remote-control truck.

Gary Linford, of Highwater, said, “We are very proud of our long-term collaboration with the CICC and our ability to support them over the years.

“The work of the Crisis Centre is integral to the ending of domestic violence in the Cayman Islands and we want to support them every step of the way.”

He noted the contribution of staff, friends and even the firm’s competitors who were invited to the gathering, adding, “I am so very grateful for the support everyone continues to show HighWater in this important fundraising event.

CICC executive director Ania Milanowska said she was grateful for the donations. “The gifts were such a big hit on Christmas day and we were able to delight so many of our current and past clients with them,” she said.

She explained the donation is timely as the CICC is getting ready to launch its latest service – Estella’s Place and the TAYA (teens and young adults) lounge – at Crown Plaza on Eastern Avenue.

Milanowska said this “will be our public-facing space where we will be hosting group-counselling sessions, family get-togethers and most importantly, a safe place for teens and young adults to come and hang out”.
