Indian High Commissioner visits Cayman

(CNS Local Life): The High Commissioner of India, Sevala Naik, paid a courtesy call on Governor Helen Kilpatrick at the Government Administration Building (GAB) Monday, 9 January. Naik, who was on his first official visit to the Cayman Islands, presented his credentials to Acting Premier Moses Kirkconnell two days later, also at GAB.

He also met Minister of Financial Services Wayne Panton.

Naik spoke to the governor and cabinet ministers about highlights of the Indian economy and ways to explore possible collaborative ventures in different areas between Cayman and his country. He also presented gifts from India to Kilpatrick and Kirkconnell.

Earlier, on Sunday, 8 January, Naik met with members of the local Indian community at the Town Hall in George Town to advise about rules and regulations affecting his compatriots living abroad and answer other questions, particularly about possible cultural outreach programmes and educational opportunities for children of non-resident Indians living in the Cayman Islands.

He also stopped at the Harquail Theatre to meet Cayman National Cultural Foundation artistic director Henry Muttoo and manager Marcia Muttoo to discuss possible cultural exchanges.

The High Commission in Kingston has jurisdiction for Jamaica, Turks and Caicos Islands, The Bahamas and British Virgin Islands, in addition to the Cayman Islands.

Accompanying Naik on his tours of Cayman were his wife, Sunitha, and their two daughters, Sahithi and Janvitha, as well as the unofficial Honorary Consul for India in the Cayman Islands, Dr Krishna Mani.
