(CNS Local Life): The Chamber of Commerce is making the final preparations ahead of their 2017 Earth Day cleanup set for Saturday, 22 April. This year the organisation has partnered with Guy Harvey to create an exclusive T-shirt, which features a one-of-a-kind logo that he personally designed. “Earth Day is a vital community event that allows us to work alongside our friends, colleagues and neighbours to preserve the beauty and safety of the Cayman Islands,” said Wil Pineau, chamber CEO.

“To have Guy Harvey personally design the T-shirt and support the event is very special, and the chamber staff, council and I wholeheartedly thank him.”

The 2017 clean-up is the 21st that the chamber has held, and over the years volunteers have collected just under 20,000 bags of litter and garbage from Cayman’s roads and beaches, stated a chamber press release.

Earth Day is also closely tied to the chamber’s Environmental Pledge. Launched in 2007, the pledge encourages businesses, schools and community members to preserve and protect the environment, and commit to reducing waste, conserving energy, recycling, and implementing greener ways of living.

More than 1,000 participants have volunteered for the Earth Day Clean-up this year and the chamber said more are still welcome to join the effort.

Volunteers will get a chance to own one of the Guy Harvey-designed T-shirts, as well as exclusive caps, tote bags and water bottles (while stock lasts).

The cleanup will conclude with a brunch at the George Town Yacht Club from 10am-12pm.

To volunteer, complete the online application available on the Chamber of Commerce website. For more information, call (743-9123) or email Carolina Watler
