(CNS Local Life): A local church held a twenty20 cricket tournament on Easter Sunday, 16 April, to raise money for community projects. Among the initiatives slated to benefit from the fundraiser are the recently launched soup kitchen that serves communities in the Windsor Park and Walkers Road areas, and an upcoming back-to-school drive to assist parents in equipping their children for the September start of the new school year.

Organiser Kings Seventh-day Adventist Church will also continue to support the Have a Heart Cayman Foundation while its community services department responds to needs requiring urgent interventions among families and individuals residing in the George Town area.

Kings was assisted by the community services departments of the Adventist Conference and other churches, stated a Seventh-day Adventist Church press release.

The event also included domino games, bouncy castles, fish dishes prepared by Kings volunteers, snow cones and popcorn, and free blood-pressure and blood-sugar checks.

“I was delighted that the church community responded so generously with their time and resources to make this event such a success,” said Kings’ pastor Jeff Jefferson, adding, “Besides the funds that were raised, it was an opportunity for church members from all points on Grand Cayman to come together to have some fun.”

Community services leader Stephanie Jackson thanked the church’s 21 volunteers who, she said, give so unstintingly of their time in making all the various activities a success, both from the perspective of raising funds and in implementing programmes.

At the end of the tournament, the team from the Berea Church of West Bay raised the winners’ cup.
