Eligibility for the ‘Caymanian’ immigration queue

| 11/04/2017

1. If someone is naturalised and gets a Cayman passport but does not yet have Caymanian status, what queue would they use at the airport?
2. I have Caymanian status through marriage but never got naturalised and do not hold a Cayman passport. Do I get to go through the immigration line for Caymanians at the airport?

Auntie’s answer: Since these two questions are similar I am including both in this column. For those readers who like their answers short and sweet, you will be very happy.

The people fitting either criterion can wait on the immigration queue designated for Caymanians at the airport. Anyone holding a Cayman passport or has been granted Caymanian status even without having a passport from here, is free to use that queue.

Shortest line, really doesn’t matter. Laid back feel.

Cayman has the nicest immigration people of any country I remember being in, and no matter the line it’s always been a pleasure, a sincere pleasure, to enter the Cayman Islands and once again stand among the best people on the planet.

Caymanian immigration is one of the nicer immigration agencies to deal with. No need to worry about which line. They will just proceed with their task. Go to Barbados and then you will find out how difficult immigration can be.

I would use it anyway and ask for the policy on positive discrimiation and or any equality policies or law.

It all bout entitlement. How entitled do you feel?

Many persons with Cayman Passports have no right to live or work in Cayman. How is immigration monitoring them? Is it in fact treating them as Caymanians even though they may not be?

You are right, but immigration either does not know that, or will not admit it, leaving the concept of us having laws a joke.

You should note that you may get some jeers and looks from folks who are not welcoming of new or non status quo Caymanians.

Who cares if they are not welcoming ? I certainly don’t . The ‘Looks & Jeers’ as you put it don’t come from the Caymanian citizenry that is by & large both welcoming and accepting of other nationalities , who by whatever route have attained citizen status here. For all those who harbour resentment , I hope you are able to accept & get on with your lives. Peace!

I don’t think the immigration officers here care much so you can use whichever queue you like, some people use the Visitors queue as there are more officers for visitors and can be quicker depending on the makeup of people on your flight.
