(CNS Local Life): Tristaca Ebanks, the personal assistant to the chief officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been named Cayman Islands Government Employee of the Month for March 2017. She was recognised for being “most customer-conscious”. She has worked in government since 2007, with her first job in the Passport Office.

Ebanks, who is known as “The Sunshine Girl”, according to a government press release, moved over to the Portfolio of Internal and External Affairs, which is now the MHA, in 2008. She was promoted to personal assistant to Deputy Governor Donovan Ebanks in 2012.

Her performance earned Ebanks the 2016 Shining Star Award, which is based on peer nomination. Additionally, she was recently nominated to attend the Institute of Public Administration of Canada’s National Annual Conference as a talent development opportunity in leadership.

“Tristaca is one of those rare employees who has an infectious personality and a strong work ethic,” said Acting Chief Officer Michael Nixon. “While the ministry’s organisational culture has evolved as one that is vibrant, relevant, and responsive to our customers’ needs, Tristaca has undeniably been a driving force for teamwork, collaboration, and excellence in customer service.”

Her work covers the gamut, from finding ways to save funds on travel to streamlining communication processes between the ministry, the Department of Immigration and the Office of the Premier on matters related to immigration policy.

Deputy Governor Franz Manderson praised the MHA for offering appreciation awards to their employees, which serves as a model for other departments.

“Tristaca, you have been described as the glue that holds the ministry’s executive team together,” he said. “You are a top performer whose agile approach to management support and coordination makes Cayman better.

“You have the confidence and skills needed to provide cross-functional support for the executive team, as well as the finance and human resources sections. For this, I thank you for raising the bar for other civil servants to aspire to.”
