Junior Batabano a cavalcade of colour

The winning band of Red Bay Primary “cockatoos” 

(CNS Local Life): The 15th annual Junior Batabano parade marched colourfully through George Town Saturday, 29 May, with a record number of entrants vying to be crowned top band. After a very close competition, Red Bay Primary School took the coveted “Band of the Year” award at this year’s event, whose overall theme was “It’s a Jungle Out There”.

The Red Bay students were decked out as yellow and white cockatoos. Coming in second was St Ignatius Catholic School, with the defending band of the year, Prospect Primary, placing third. St Ignatius also won “Spirit of Junior Batabano”.  More than 300 children and teens participated in the parade.

The judging criteria included portrayal of costume, visual impact, stage choreography and banner impact The judges were Miss Cayman Islands Anika Connolly, Richard Jackson of the Batabano Mas Band Party Animals, and Melanie Thomas of Three Rock Media Management.
