Sea swim awash with participants

(CNS Local Life): The 30th annual Flow 800m Sea Swim, which took place Saturday, 13 May, attracted 113 swimmers to participate in the loop course which started and ended at Governor’s Beach. The overall winners finished within three seconds of each other providing an exciting finish for the crowds. John Bodden finished first in 10:47, followed by Rory Barrett (10:49) and Zachary Moore (10:50). The top three female finishers were Avery Lambert (12:06), Stephanie Royston (12:39) and Elana Sinclair (12:44).

Michael Lockwood, president of race organiser, the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association (CIASA), said of the event: “CIASA’s open water swims are a great activity for serious swimmers, athletes who use swimming as a cross-training discipline and families who want to exercise together.”

He thanked sponsor Flow as well as all the swimmers who took part, adding, “We had a number of our CARIFTA swimmers, National Development Team swimmers, tri-athletes, Special Olympians, masters swimmers and members of the community who just want to stay fit.”

Upcoming sea swims include an 800m event on 29 May, followed by the Flowers one-mile (10 June), 5K and 10K (12 June) races.
