(CNS Local Life): Miss Teen Cayman Islands contestants were officially sashed by their sponsors on Saturday, 22 July, part of the activities leading up to the pageant, set for Saturday, 26 August, at the Lions Centre. The entrants thanked their sponsors and the pageant committee for all the work that is being done and each one said she was already reaping the benefits of her training.

The organising committee stated in a press release that with the support of family and sponsors, the pageant will once again be “very exciting”. Each participant will show off her individual talent, while also demonstrating the confidence all have gained through their rigorous training programme.

Miss Teen contestants will be heading to Cayman Brac on a day trip on 5 August, compliments of the Ministry of Tourism, where they will be given a historical tour of the island. The academic test they must take may include questions related to the Sister Islands so it is important to give them first-hand knowledge and experience, said the release.

The new crown was also unveiled at the ceremony. In addition, the winner of the pageant will receive a four-year scholarship from the Ministry of Education.

Throughout the coming weeks, the contestants will be interviewed on both radio and television, enabling the public will see and hear more from the young ladies. A spokesperson for the pageant said, “It is a lot of work by a group of dedicated volunteers under the direction of the Lions Club of Grand Cayman. Although the Miss Teen Pageant has a beauty component, its overriding mandate is to help young women reach their goal academically, prepare them for the world in terms of self-confidence, character building, teamwork, discipline and self-expression.

“We expect that when they have completed this event they will have matured and have a broader outlook on life and recognise that they can achieve whatever they set their minds to and that the world is wider than their circle and it is ever changing, which means they must be always learning and reaching for higher heights to be able to compete in this changing world.”
