Pirates Week to celebrate 40 years

| 05/09/2017

CNS Local Life(CNS Local Life): The annual Pirates Week Festival, celebrating its 40th anniversary and themed “Treasures of Change”, is set to take place 3-19 November with 30 different events spread over all three islands. This year, the festivities will start in Cayman Brac (3-5 November), then move to Grand Cayman (9-13 Nov) and close in Little Cayman (17-19 Nov).

The landing pageant and float parade in George Town, which take place 11 November, usually attract thousands of spectators along the streets to watch a mock takeover of the island by a band of fighting pirates, who come ashore by ship at Hog Sty Bay. Following that will be a parade, street dances and fireworks.

During the festival, visitors will be able to enjoy crafts, music, culture, sporting events, steel pan, song and costume competitions, special kids activities and local food.

New this year is the combined district day, on 13 November, where local heritage will be on display from all areas of Grand Cayman, instead of the usual five separate events.

Also debuting is Culture Jam, on 11 November from 7:30pm-9:00pm, with talent from the categories of dance, music and theatre competing on stage for a first prize of $2,000.

We should celebrate a slavery day, where slave masters tell their property what to do, while they sing and dance. Ya’know heritage and culture and all.
