(L-R) Omari Corbin of RBC presents Jondo Obi with a $15,000 donation

(CNS Local Life): RBC Royal Bank continued its 20-year partnership with the Cayman Islands Red Cross (CIRC) with their recent charity golf tournament, held 1 September. The oversubscribed event, which featured a four-man scramble format with a shotgun start, was held at the North Sound Club. More than 100 participants from organisations across Cayman gathered to play while raising funds for the Red Cross.

“This year marks 20 years that we have partnered with the Cayman Islands Red Cross in support of our community. It was 20 years ago, that we committed to the cause of helping our community to prosper and today we remain dedicated to doing just that,” said Omari Corbin, of RBC Royal Bank, Cayman Islands, in press release.

To further celebrate this significant milestone, RBC recently launched the “20 for 20” campaign with a donation of $15,000, encouraging employees and the general public to help raise an additional $5,000 for the CIRC.

Corbin added that RBC is pleased to continue its commitment as a title partner of the annual tournament. “Our strong partnership with CIRC over the years, demonstrates our dedication to the development of the Cayman community,” he said. “We encourage participation as each year this event offers fun for all, while raising money toward a worthy cause. We are also grateful for all the volunteers who ensured that all aspects of the tournament ran efficiently.”

One of the largest fundraisers for the CIRC, the money collected from the event directly benefits the organisation’s four main programme areas: disaster management, first aid and CPR training, child protection education and volunteer development. Each of these components is critical to the nation’s safety.

“For 56 years, the Red Cross has supported families and individuals in the Cayman Islands,” said Jondo Obi, CIRC director. “The funds raised at this event are instrumental for us to continue offering aid to those who desperately need it. We are extremely grateful for the continued support of RBC Royal Bank as well as all of our sponsors and volunteers.”

Obi noted that the Red Cross was the first shelter to open on Cayman and added, “One hundred percent of the money raised through this tournament stays in the Cayman Islands and goes directly toward supporting the incredible work of the Red Cross. We encourage all businesses and community members to consider participating in the event next year.”

One of the largest programmes that the Red Cross funds is disaster management. “Following the lessons that we have learned post past hurricanes or natural disasters, we have collaborated with the government and corporate Cayman to establish community response teams. If there is a disaster we can respond efficiently to support the community with supplies etc.”

RBC’s “20 for 20” campaign continues through this month. “We are committed to our community and to the Red Cross. Join our movement to raise $20,000 to support the Red Cross,” Corbin said.
