(CNS Local Life): Nicoela McCoy, Deputy Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI), has become the first Cayman member of the International Aviation Women’s Association (IAWA). Founded in 1988, IAWA promotes and advances women leaders in the aviation and aerospace industries throughout a global network. McCoy was named to the association in July.

“The CAACI is very proud of Mrs McCoy’s membership to this prestigious aviation organisation,” said CAACI Director-General Richard Smith, in a press release. “This is another testament to her vast knowledge and qualified experience on international aviation matters. This milestone in her aviation career should serve as inspiration and encouragement to young women considering a career in the aviation industry.”

IAWA initiatives aim to connect, inspire and lead women throughout the world in sectors including airport management; commercial, general and business aviation; education and research; engineering; finance; government; law; manufacturing; media and space.

McCoy joined CAACI in 2002 and was appointed Deputy-Director, Economic Regulation and Administration, in 2012. She oversees the aviation economic regulatory activities of the jurisdiction, including permits for foreign-registered carriers’ commercial air transport operations; tariff monitoring; bilateral/multilateral negotiations; and regulatory policy for airports and service providers.

McCoy also represents CAACI at high-level government negotiations with foreign governments and regularly attends various international aviation conferences and trade shows.
