(CNS Local Life): The public is being called on to submit nominations for the Proud of Them award scheme, which recognises excellence among young people in the Cayman Islands. The nomination period will run until 6 November 2017. Youth aged 10-25 who are high achievers in academics, sports, their career, culture, business or community service are eligible to be nominated.

“This is a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements and drive of our brightest and most accomplished youth,” said Minister of Youth Juliana O’Connor-Connolly. “We need the community’s input to ensure that we honour those who are worthy of praise and are role models for their peers.”

Begun in 2012 to highlight exceptional young people, the Proud of Them award also showcases their initiative and positive attitude. To date, 84 young men and women have been recognised.

The Ministry of Youth is again partnering with the National Youth Commission (NYC) to continue the programme.

“Society must commemorate the accomplishments of youth,” said NYC head Rev. Donovan Myers. “As a community, we need to be strong advocates for our young people. Many of them are distinguishing themselves in their chosen fields and our recognition of their efforts can help inspire them and their peers to greater heights.”

The 12 awardees will be announced at a reception set for 29 November. Each recipient will receive a financial award and his or her image will be featured for a six-month period on billboards across the Cayman Islands.

Nomination forms are available online. For more information about the Proud of Them award email the organisers or visit the scheme’s Facebook page
