(CNS Local Life): Cayman’s youngest storytellers will be kicking off one of the islands’ most popular festivals on Saturday night (25 November), when ‘Gimistory’ opens at Dart Park on South Church Street. The annual event will run for seven days and features an impressive and talented line-up of more than two dozen local and international tellers, comedians and musicians.

Among the artists performing will be the Caribbean’s extempo teller the Black Sage; Jamaica’s Amina Blackwood-Meeks; local psychedelic folk musician Kingsley Donalds Jr, who will be making his Gimistory debut; and funny guy Matt Brown.

The festival has been providing old and young with some old-fashioned free entertainment on the beach and under the stars since 1998.

Butta-Fa-Fish launches the event and features the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Young-at-Arts programme and George Town Primary School Storytellers Club who will tell their own tales of folklore and more. There will also be a heritage dress-up competition.

Then on Monday the adult travelling tellers will begin their journey around all three islands starting in North Side at Kaibo Beach before the much-loved  “Duppy night” ends the event at Smith Cove on 2 December. In addition to the entertaining yarns, the free event will also include a fish fry with district chefs competing for the best fried fish and fritters.

The festival starts at 7pm each evening and the full schedule is as follows:

Saturday, 25 November – Dart Park – ‘Butta-Fa-Fish’ – Youth Storytellers’ Night
Monday, 27 November – North Side – Kaibo Beach
Tuesday, 28 November – Bodden Town – Nurse Josie’s Senior Centre
Wednesday, 29 November – East End – Public Beach
Thursday, 30 November – Little Cayman – Little Cayman Beach Resort (12 pm) and Cayman Brac – Agriculture Grounds
Friday, 1 December – West Bay Public Beach
Saturday, 2 December – George Town – ‘Duppy Story Night’ – Smith Cove
