(L-R) Tourism ministers Moses Kirkconnell and Edmund Bartlett

(CNS Local Life): Tourism Minister Moses Kirkconnell recently met with Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett in Kingston to discuss possible opportunities for both countries to collaborate, with a regional focus on tourism and aviation connectivity. At the Wednesday, 24 January meeting Kirkconnell and Bartlett shared the strengths of the Cayman Islands and Jamaica, looking to combine efforts of both nations as a means to growth.

Noting the common cultural experiences and unique features of both countries, the ministers agreed to sign a multi-destination marketing arrangement later this year, stated a Cayman Islands Department of Tourism press release. The impetus is to provide a more diverse offering for international visitors. The ministers discussed the role of Cayman Airways in enabling connectivity as well as collaborating in cruise tourism to create a strong Western Caribbean itinerary.

“As we celebrate record growth in tourism arrivals and Cayman Airways, our national flag carrier, turns 50 years it’s important to look toward future success,” said Kirkconnell. “By developing new routes for connectivity, we will secure the long-term sustainability for our tourism industry and…Cayman Airways.”

The Cayman contingent on the trip included Director of Tourism Rosa Harris, and Phillip Rankin and Fabian Whorms, the chairman and president of Cayman Airways, respectively.

During the trip, the Cayman Islands delegation also met with Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) executives to discuss opportunities to strengthen relations between Cayman Airways and NMIA.
