(CNS Local Life): Have a Heart Cayman has received a $10,000 donation to help facilitate and fund life-saving operations for children aged from three months to 18 years old. CIBC FirstCaribbean recently presented the cheque at Health City Cayman Islands (HCCI), the hospital where the surgeries take place. To date the charity has helped save the lives of 274 children from 21 countries, predominantly in the Caribbean.

“We focus our attention on children in the toughest situations, who have often been rejected for treatment in their home countries,” said Jennifer McCarthy, Have a Heart manager. “We work in partnership with Health City and we could not do this without them and their commitment to non-profit treatment.

“It’s astonishingly rewarding to see children and young people’s lives transformed from having no hope to planning going to college and their weddings.”

McCarthy added that every dollar from the donation will go directly towards saving a child’s life. “We have one child arriving for surgery tomorrow and another coming next week,” she added.

While the number of children who have already had their lives saved by the charity is remarkable and demonstrates the great need for their help across the region, McCarthy said that as far as she is concerned, Have a Heart is never about statistics: “It’s always about just one child and the difference we can make to that child’s future.”

In presenting the cheque at the handover ceremony, Colette Delaney, the bank’s chief operating officer, said, “CIBC FirstCaribbean, through our Charitable Trust Foundation, supports charities and good causes across the region. We are delighted to support Have a Heart and we recognise the incredible job they do, not just in caring for so many sick children, who otherwise would not be able to get help, but in supporting their families at a very difficult time.”

The bank’s managing director, Mark McIntyre, added, “We are pleased to be in a position to help Health City’s Have a Heart campaign and our hope is that the donation we make goes some way towards saving the lives of children that could not otherwise afford the life-saving surgeries they need.”
