(CNS Local Life): The community has eight days remaining to submit nominations for the relaunched Golden Apple Awards. The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce is organising the awards, first introduced in 2007 and held until 2013, in partnership with the Ministry of Education to honour public and private educators. The awards ceremony is set for Saturday, 26 May.

“Last year we recognised the businesses in our community who did not get the credit they deserved with the Business Excellence Awards, and this year we want to celebrate the hard-working and inspirational educators who change the lives of young Caymanians,” said Paul Byles, Chamber president.

“The Chamber is encouraging all members of the community to get involved to rally behind the teachers making our schools as successful as they are.”

Nominations will be accepted until 23 March, and nominees must be full-time educators or principals currently working in a public or private school. The five categories for nominations are public and private primary school teachers, public and private high school teachers and a public or private school principal.

Past recipients are not eligible to be nominated in categories in which they have previously received an award, but are may be nominated in a new category.

There will also be an award recognising an outstanding educator’s commitment to education over the years. The Lifetime Achievement Award winner must be living, have served a minimum of 25 years in education (15 of these in the Cayman Islands), and made significant contributions to the improvement of the educational environment.

This year’s awards ceremony will take place at The Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman.

Nomination forms will be available in all schools and online at the Chamber of Commerce. To collect a paper form, email the Chamber or go to the organisation’s offices in Governors Square between 8:30am and 5pm, Monday-Friday.

To nominate an educator for the Lifetime Achievement Award, email Chamber CEO Wil Pineau the name and details of the candidate, or submit a nominee online at the Chamber’s website.
