BlueSky Airlines has dropped off radar

| 23/04/2018

Whatever happened to the much-lauded BlueSky Airlines and their South American destinations? I see the offices are still signposted in Eastern Avenue and the website still up although no executives are now shown.

Ask Auntie, CNS Local Life, Caymanian statusAuntie’s answer: Talk of this airline dates back to 2013, when BlueSky first announced its plan to begin operations, but instead of launching in 2015, the company was hit by delays over leasing airplanes. In addition, company execs were still completing the regulatory process to get the airline off the ground (see No take-off yet for proposed new airline). Nothing seems to have been heard of BlueSky since then.

As you mentioned, the website is still up, as is its Facebook page. Calls to the posted office telephone number have gone unanswered and emails to company addresses have either bounced back or received no replies. Ditto for an email sent directly to the company’s owners.

At this point, I have little option but to conclude that the proposed airline has been indefinitely grounded unless anyone involved in its proposed launch would care to weigh in with an update.

“BlueSky Airlines, a new Cayman Islands start-up, plans to offer scheduled services to the Caribbean as well as Central and South America using a wet-leased Bombardier Dash 8-400s.

Its proposed network includes service to the destinations of Santo Dominigo, Montego Bay, Panama City, Cartagena, Cancun and Nassau, with onward service to Tortola, Bogota and San Jose, subject to regulatory approval.

The start-up planned to launch services in 2015. However, the collapse of EuroLOT forced BlueSky to terminate it’s lease agreement for Dash 8-400s.

BlueSky aims to acquire a new fleet before applying for an AOC. A revised launch date has not been specified.”
