(CNS Local Life): An 8 September date has been set for the inaugural Miss World Cayman Islands pageant, with applications open until 1 May for women between the ages of 18 and 25 who aspire to be contestants. Over the next few weeks there will be an information session for interested women to learn more about the pageant.

Pageant director Pamela Ebanks-Small said of potential Miss World Cayman Islands contenders: “We are looking for women who have a desire to represent their country internationally; and are confident, intelligent, and beautiful as well as involved in their community and demonstrate natural leadership qualities.”

Previously, Miss Cayman Islands winners competed in both the Miss Universe and Miss World contests but, for the first time, this year a separate representative will be chosen at a dedicated pageant.

As part of Miss World Cayman Islands “Beauty with a Purpose” segment, organisers have decided to focus on protection of the environment, stated a press release. “Together we will learn how to better protect the future of our environment and hopefully encourage all residents to do the same,” said Ebanks-Small.

The pageant will consist of a judges’ interview, opening number and introduction, and segments for top model, evening gown and questions and answers.

Contestants will also be required to present a “Beauty with a Purpose” project and compete in a sports segment which will take place prior to the night of the pageant.

The winner will compete in the International Miss World competition, which will take place sometime in the latter part of the year.
