Looking for wifi at airport

| 16/05/2018

Will the renovated airport provide free wifi as well as flight arrival boards in the arrivals hall? I was recently there to pick up guests and met tourists picking up other guests and I had to use my cell data to check online about arrivals of flights, etc.

Ask Auntie, CNS Local Life, Caymanian statusAuntie’s answer: This is one of those good news/bad news situations. A Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) representative has confirmed that the renovated airport will provide free wifi throughout the facility, so in both the arrival and departure halls. In addition, flight information displays will be installed at the airport.

However, CIAA was unable to provide an estimate of when both of these services will be available.

Concession fees at the airport are horrendous, and the vendors have to recover those enormous costs from the traveling public, or provide less quality service, or in this case BOTH!

A microcosm of Cayman general – top dollar prices for third rate services.

I thought it said ‘Looking for Wife at the Airport’ ..had to re-read…

I was looking for what planet CIAA are on when they are charging CI$13 for a cold croissant sandwich and a soda.

“The RFP process was a tremendous success. We wish to thank all the local businesses who responded to the RFP.

After extensive interviews conducted by the authority for the restaurant spaces, all the companies that responded to the RFP have been thanked for their hard work, and the winners who have been informed last summer of acceptance of their bids, are working hard to be open by December of this year.”

      Said no one, ever.

Well CIAA isn’t responsible for the prices of the food BUT Island Taste/Hungry Horse is. They are making a killing being the only overpriced, worst tasting food ever in the airport and CIAA has not made any efforts to do anything about it. Everyone I know complains about it but whoever is in charge of Commercial services is too scared to do anything.

        Hungry Horse is a rip-off.
We should boycott those cheapskates until they provide a better service.

Of course CIAA is responsible for food prices as it regulates the grant of airport concessions. The gouging is immoral and unChristian.

When will the CIAA establish a ‘cell phone lot’ so that those of us who can’t afford to pay ridiculous rates for short-term parking don’t have to queue up over 1/2 mile away waiting on a call from our arriving passengers. All the roads leading away from the airport are either unable to support people parked awaiting calls from pickups, or have been barricaded with rocks all along the edge of the road!

I have traveled all over the US/Canada and almost all major airports have cell phone waiting lots. Third world thinking wins again?

That’s funny! We’re all trying to figure when ANYTHING will be available at our airport – AND how much it will to cost!!
