(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Brac District Committee of the National Trust recently celebrated the Queen’s birthday with a traditional tea party, which is held annually for both the local community and visitors. Heritage House hosted the party at which guests enjoyed finger foods and assorted teas at elegantly set tables in the outdoor garden.

Smartly dressed friends and family gathered to partake of the dainty treats while catching up with each other and meeting new people, stated a press release.

Inside Heritage House, guests could view local artwork while bidding on items for the silent auction. The event is also noteworthy for the hats sported by those attending.

The party serves as a fundraiser to benefit the local committee’s Land Reserve Fund, which enables the purchase of land to secure permanent wildlife sanctuaries for endemic species.

Money was raised this year through the silent auction, plant sale and split-the-cash raffle, along with entry fees. Raffle winner Wanda Tatum attended the tea party for the first time this year.

The hottest items on the auction tables were a half-day fishing trip and a dinner for two at the Southern Cross Club in Little Cayman. Trust members and the community also contributed other items, and Cayman National Bank made a cash donation in support of the annual event.

The celebration also offered an opportunity for promoting public awareness of the Trust’s cause to protect and conserve local historical culture and natural habitat.
