Jordon Hyde of Central Brooklyn SC celebrates his goal in win over Academy SC Elite

(CNS Local Life): The 2018 Cayman Airways Youth Cup rolled on through the second day with exciting action from Under-13 teams from the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and the US at Truman Bodden Sports Complex on Tuesday, 26 June.

Here is a rundown of the day’s matches from a tournament press release:

Match 5

Academy Sports Club Select (CAY)
Future Sports Club Select (CAY)

This match was postponed until Friday, 29 June, 2018 at 4pm

Match 6

Academy Sports Club Elite (CAY) 0
Central Brooklyn Soccer Club (USA) 2

Central Brooklyn Soccer Club took sole possession of the top of the table in Group B with another impressive showing in their second outing of the tournament. Solid play from both sides through the first half saw the game scoreless after 35 minutes. A minute after coming off the substitutes’ bench, Jordon Hyde put the ball past the keeper to open his account in the 39th minute for Central Brooklyn. He added another in the 63rd to seal the deal and hand Academy Sports Club Elite their second loss of the tournament.

Match 7

City Soccer Pro (USA) 0
Cavalier Soccer Club (JAM) 12

Hours after arriving in the Cayman Islands, Cavalier Soccer Club showed they were ready to get into the game and overpowered their opponents from the start. Jhmar Brown scored six goals, all in the first half, to lead the Cavalier SC attack. Jahiem Kennedy secured a hat-trick, with Rashaun Linton adding another goal. The tally was extended due to a pair of own goals from City Soccer Pro, who were playing with a younger outfit featuring several players who are only 10 years old.

Match 8

Mt Pleasant Academy (USA) 1
Academy Sports Club Select (CAY) 1

The match of the night came in the late kick-off under the lights. Mt Pleasant Academy found themselves in an unfamiliar position of trailing when Tom Byrne put Academy SC Select ahead with a brilliant free kick in the 19th minute. Jalon Lopez netted his third goal of the tournament in the 41st to tie the game. A header from a Mt Pleasant player with seconds left in stoppage time ricocheted off the post to see the teams splitting the points. Special credit to Academy SC Select goalkeeper Lachlan Lambert, who came up big with several saves to deny Mt Pleasant throughout the game.

The tournament runs until 30 June and admission is free.
