(CNS Local Life): Walkers articled clerks Yannick Whorms and Michael Testori were both called to the Cayman Islands bar earlier this month, with their applications moved by the law firm’s Ingrid Pierce and Colette Wilkins before Justice Williams. Whorms and Testori are Walkers’ 47th and 48th Caymanian articled clerks to be called to the bar.

Whorms, a recipient of the 2011 Walkers legal scholarship, attended St Ignatius Catholic School then undertook his LLB degree at the University of Leicester in the UK, graduating with upper second class honours in 2014. He then completed the legal practice course at Nottingham Trent University and was awarded a commendation in 2015. He was articled to Tim Ludford-Thomas, a partner in Walkers’ investment funds group.

Whorms addressed his family, friends and colleagues in the courtroom, “Throughout the legal education and training process, Walkers has been instrumental in providing the support and guidance necessary to not only satisfy the professional requirements of the jurisdiction, but to excel from both a personal and professional standpoint,” he said.

“Given the strong foundation provided by the firm, and having now taken this latest step in my legal career, I am certainly looking forward to progressing at Walkers for years to come and to building my career as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands.”

Testori first worked at Walkers in 2010 as a summer student and received the law firm’s legal scholarship in 2011. He completed his schooling at St Ignatius and then undertook his LLB degree at the University of Kent in the UK, graduating with first class honours in 2015.

As a part of his LLB degree, he participated in an exchange programme through Kent which allowed him to attend the University of Hong Kong. Testori completed the legal practice course at the University of Law, London Moorgate and was awarded a distinction in 2016. He was articled to Shelley White, a partner in Walkers’ insolvency and dispute resolution group.

Testori told those gathered to share the day, “As I begin a new chapter, I look back at my path to becoming a member of the Cayman Islands bar with great appreciation. It has been an excellent learning experience and I have thoroughly enjoyed pursuing this goal.”

He added, “Walkers has continually supported me throughout my legal career by providing the necessary guidance both professionally and personally. I look forward to positively representing Walkers and the legal profession to the best of my ability for many years to come.”

Walkers Cayman Islands’ managing partner Tim Buckley congratulated the two men on their admission to the bar. “It has been a pleasure to witness their growth as recipients of the Walkers Legal Scholarship Programme and we are delighted with their numerous achievements to date,” he said. “Walkers is extremely proud to have helped them reach this important milestone in their careers and are confident they will both make excellent lawyers.”
