James Bovell of Breast Cancer Foundation presents cheque to Jennifer Weber of the Cancer Society

(CNS Local Life): The Breast Cancer Foundation of Cayman recently presented their annual grant/donation to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society (CICS). These funds help the Cancer Society provide assistance to breast cancer patients through financial aid, special bras and prosthetics, and mammograms. The total of the cheque to cover 2017 expenses was $90,418.07 plus $2,516 for additional vouchers to pay for those who need mammograms.

“The Breast Cancer Foundation has been the most faithful and consistent annual supporter of the Cayman Islands Cancer Society,” said CICS operations manager Jennifer Weber in a press release. “They have increased their financial support each year, eight years in a row, for a total of CI$479,188.62.”

Breast Cancer Foundation chief administrator Janette Fitzgerald added, “We applaud the work that the Cayman Islands Cancer Society does for breast cancer patients. The foundation is honoured to help out annually with these grants and donations.”

The foundation has just signed a new three-year grant/donation agreement with the Cancer Society, which will include $70,000 annually for financial assistance and $20,000 a year for mammogram screenings.

“The Cayman Islands Cancer Society is an integral organisation for the support of breast cancer patients,” said Kim Lund, co-founder and board member of the Breast Cancer Foundation, adding that the foundation “looks forward to a continued close relationship in the years to come”.

An additional $5,000 grant has been awarded for one year only to be used for special bras and prosthetics, explained James Bovell, foundation co-founder and board member. “This grant directly focuses funds on a much-needed service for breast cancer survivors,” he said. After this year, the Breast Cancer Foundation will fully take on this service, stated the press release.

Chair of the CICS board of directors Guy Manning noted the relationship of the two organisations. “The Cancer Society and the Breast Cancer Foundation are a team,” he said. “We help each other provide charitable services to people in need. We appreciate what they do to help us help others in Cayman.”
