(CNS Local Life): The North Side Seventh-day Adventist Church recently held its annual harvest festival, which included selling ground provisions, fruit, clothing and other items, with proceeds going toward the church’s community outreach activities in the district. The event, held Sunday, 21 July, began with a thanksgiving service in the church, followed by lunch and a tent and yard sale.

North Side pastor Vaughan Henry said of the festival: “It was truly a community effort, attracting tourists and other visitors from the local community,” as well as members from the wider church fellowship, stated a Seventh-day Adventist Church press release.

“Our sister churches were invited to join us and some played a vital supportive role in this event by supplying tables and chairs and offering invaluable manpower in the installation of the tent,” he added.

Pastor Vaughan explained that the majority of the ground provision was grown and donated by members of the North Side Church, a resource supplemented by the wider community and other family members and friends. The food on sale included plantains, cassava, breadfruit, papayas, mangoes and guineps.

He thanked all who contributed, noting in particular the community’s contributions of clothes, shoes and toys for all ages. Proceeds from the sale will go towards North Side community outreach activities, including the operation of a soup kitchen for the district’s residents, said the press release.

The community services department of the church also donates children clothing and items such as colouring books to Health City Cayman Islands, and regularly visits the sick and house-bound persons throughout the community of North Side.
