Jason Howard from Hurley’s Media presents donation to Tiffany Conolly of the Cayman Islands Cancer Society

(CNS Local Life): The eighth annual Ice on Ice fundraiser held last month raised more than $17,000 for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society (CICS), a record amount for the event. All of the proceeds from ticket sales and games at the casino and cocktails affair benefitted CICS.

Jennifer Weber, CICS operations manager, said of the fundraiser: “We are honoured to be the beneficiary charity of this annual event. Ice on Ice is an affordable and glamorous event that appeals to so many.

“Everyone got really excited to dress up, play casino games and sip cocktails for a chance to win the diamonds all while helping CICS help others in Cayman.”

More than 400 people attended the event, which was organised by Hurley’s Media and Z99, enjoying a night of casino games, where chips could be redeemed for prizes.  Four people each took away a 0.5 carat diamond found in the bottom of their welcome drink, courtesy of Rocky’s Diamonds.

Jason Howard, Hurley’s radio operations manager, said the donation to the Cancer Society was the largest one to date. “On behalf of the team at Hurley’s Media and Z99, we are thrilled to be donating $17,536 to CICS to help cancer patients in the community. I’d like to thank our Z99 fans, event sponsors and community members for your continued support of this event,” he said.

Weber added, “The Cancer Society can’t wait for Ice on Ice 2019.”

“Games at casino, I thought gambling was illegal here in Cayman? So how about raising funds for CIG by way of restricted casinos where locals can’t play like Bahamas. I’d only vote for this on one condition which is with the absolute promise that the proceeds will reduce duty/taxes on food for the consumer.
