The cheque presentation to the Cancer Society

(CNS Local Life): The Optimist Club of George Town hosted their inaugural 2018 Cayman Gospel Song Competition and fundraising concert last month to create awareness of childhood cancer and raise money for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society. Club president Elaine Harris said the event, held 16 June at the Lions Centre, also provided a platform to showcase the “incredible talent of children and adults in the Cayman Islands”.

The event raised $10,617 for the Cancer Society, with the funds earmarked to assist children and families affected by childhood cancer.

Six youth and 10 adult finalists performed at the concertf, termed a “Songspiration” by contest co-chair, Optimist Gail Bell.

The organisation issued complimentary passes to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society for their clients who have been diagnosed with, or who have overcome, cancer, stated a press release. Additional support for attendees in the form of a prayer tent was made available at the event, where volunteer pastors were kept busy throughout the night.

Harris said the feedback from attendees was “gratifying” because people expressed their appreciation for the event which entertained, inspired and encouraged, stated the release.

The concert showcased exceptional performances from the contestants, and special guest artist Clifford Henry moved the crowd with his energetic performance. The local band Clarity also wowed the audience with their melodies and inspiring lyrics.
