(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Islands now has a dedicated Olympic House with the official opening of the facility Thursday, 16 August. The new headquarters include a training area, offices for the leadership of the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee (CIOC), a mini-museum depicting the history of the committee, a small library and a gift shop selling memorabilia.

The US$400,000 in funding for Olympic House, located in Cayman Business Park, came through the Panam Sports Organization, which comprises 41 member nations in the Americas and works with national Olympic committees and various sports federations to facilitate the Olympic movement and the flagship Pan American Games.

Among those attending the inauguration ceremony were CIOC secretary general Carson Ebanks, CIOC treasurer Bernie Bush, representatives of Panam Sports and government officials.

Calling the opening of Olympic House, located in Cayman Business Park, “a dream come true”, Ebanks thanked Panam Sports for giving the committee the opportunity to establish the dedicated office. “We have to thank God for the support of Panam Sports, without them we would not have been able to create this Olympic House,” he said.

In remarks at the ceremony, he also thanked CIOC President Donald McLean for providing them offices where committee had spent many years.

Neven Ilic, Panam Sports president, added that “we are really proud to be here in the Cayman Islands to inaugurate this first Olympic House. This is part of the Strategic Plan that Panam Sports initiated a year ago, and we really want to congratulate President Donald McLean and Carson Ebanks for the great job they are doing here in the name of sport.”

Ivar Sisniega, secretary general of Panam Sports, added, “I am convinced that this will greatly help the development of sport in this country. Hopefully more member countries can take advantage of the different programs that we are offering.”

The Olympic Committee also used the occasion to recognise all the athletes who have represented the Cayman Islands in the Olympic Games throughout their history.
