Action from last year’s tournament

(CNS Local Life): Organisers of the Cayman Islands Classic basketball tournament will be partnering with multiplatform sports network Stadium to air all 12 games that will be played at this year’s event, which is set for 19-21 November. The pre-season college basketball competition features four 2018 NCAA tournament teams – Clemson University, Creighton University, Georgia State University and St. Bonaventure University.

The games will be broadcast exclusively by Stadium on Facebook, marking a first for the tournament, said a Cayman Islands Classic press release. All games will be played at the John Gray High School gymnasium.

“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Stadium and expand our global reach on Facebook’s streaming platform,” said Jill Turk, chief strategy officer of organiser Caymax Sports. “Our tournament’s key objective was to increase our exposure to a massive global audience and provide the opportunity for sports fans to watch our premier event, while showcasing our tournament sponsors and the beautiful Cayman Islands. To have the chance to share this exciting sports experience in just our tournament’s second year with billions of fans globally is an incredible opportunity.”

In addition to the four NCAA teams already mentioned, the tournament will include Boise State University, Illinois State University, University of Akron and the University of Georgia.

Caymax Sports CEO Joe Wright added, “We are thrilled to have our tournament streamed on the largest global digital platform. As a result, our teams and their respective universities participating in our tournament will receive enormous global exposure. Our exclusive partnership provides the opportunity for Facebook sports fans to watch elite Division 1 Men’s College Basketball games. This is an invaluable opportunity for all involved.”

Georgia head coach Tom Crean said of the tournament: “The trip to the Cayman Islands will be a tremendous challenge for our team. This field will definitely push us to understand what it takes to succeed. We are looking forward to it.”
