(CNS Local Life): Caymanian entertainer and filmmaker Teri Quappe has won an award at the recent Cutting Edge Film Festival of Pompano Beach, Florida. Her short, Interloper, was named the winner in the category of Best Experimental Short Film, in which there were 22 entrants, out of the more than 150 films screened.

The film was most recently shown at Cayman’s Poinciana Film festival on 3 November, along with movies from fellow Cayman filmmakers, Frank E. Flowers and Badir Awe, at two sold-out showings at the Camana Bay Cinema, stated a press release.

Earlier this year Quappe earned a bachelor of arts degree in practical filmmaking from Metfilm School in London. Interloper was her final project at the school and was filmed in November 2017 entirely in and around a small cabin in Dalavich, Scotland, with only a $4,000 budget and a crew of six.

This film was also chosen for Nashville’s Herstory Cinephilia film festival and Quappe will be present at the 18 November showing and take part in a Q&A session for festival attendees.  In addition, the short was screened at the Auckland New Zealand International Film Festival in June.

Written and directed by Quappe, the film centres on a young woman (played by Melanie Ebanks) seeking refuge from a recent violent attack, the release said. The woman arrives at a remote cabin in Scotland with the hope that the solitude and nature will help her heal. While settling into her new surroundings she starts to notice that some things are not quite right. After an unsettling night she is sure that she is not alone. Searching for the truth she fears for her own sanity. When the interloper is revealed she finds out that the truth does not always set you free.

In addition to this film, Quappe has written, directed or crewed on a number of other short and feature length projects here in Cayman and the UK.  Her most recent project was shooting, directing and editing a music video for a Cayman-based band.
