(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Islands Red Cross capital campaign, “Shelter from the Storm”, which aims to renovate and refurbish its hurricane shelter and headquarters, has received a corporate boost with a $25,000 donation from Cayman First Insurance. The campaign was launched this summer and the Red Cross is in the middle of the first phase of renovations.

The project has been supported by a variety of corporate and individual donors offering financial assistance, and Cayman First has joined as a “response partner”. The ultimate fundraising goal is $600,000.

“The partnership between the CIRC and Cayman First has been a strong one,” said CIRC Director Jondo Obi. “Over the past decade, Cayman First has been an incredible annual supporter of the many CIRC programmes, including disaster management, first aid and aquatics training, child sexuality education and protection, and the thrift shop community outreach programme.

“Thanks to Cayman First Insurance and their generous donation, these programmes will continue to thrive – this time in their newly renovated home.”

Gordon Philip, managing director of Cayman First Insurance, added the company is “excited to take part in renovating this crucial community building”.
