Miss Cayman Islands Caitlyn Tyson

(CNS Local Life): In the preliminary rounds of the Miss Universe Pageant Thursday Miss Cayman Islands Caitlyn Tyson strutted her stuff on the stage in Bangkok, Thailand, as she vied with 93 other women for a place in Sunday’s finals. Tyson made her first appearance in the introduction in a red glittery pantsuit before hitting the stage in a bright yellow bikini. In the evening gown round she wore a shimmering, silver shift dress hoping to catch the judges’ eyes ahead of the weekend’s big event.

Earlier in the week Tyson took part in the National Costume competition wearing a dress created by Cayman-based designer Kenzie Rose, which was inspired by a lyric from the country’s national song: “O sea of palest em’rald, Merging to darkest blue”.

The crystal-encrusted gown also contained emblems made from plastic recycled in the Cayman Islands. But competition in the National Costume round was tough, with some of the contestants literally wearing performance art rather than a traditional costume.

Tyson was sandwiched between Miss Canada in a giant golden Maple Leaf, who is one of the contestants tipped as a potential winner, and Miss Chile in a fur-covered outfit inspire by an ancient indigenous tribe. However, another favourite is Angela Ponce (27), the current Miss Spain and the first transgender person to compete in the Miss Universe pageant after the ban on trans contestants was lifted six years ago.

The three-hour finals will be broadcast live on Sunday, when the reigning pageant queen, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters from South Africa, will crown her successor.

  1. Common sense says:

It is really discusting to see the negative views on Miss Universe. We are a small country and exposure to a large international event like this should be used to our advantage. The person who thinks the country is 10 minutes from bankrupcy is completely out of touch and being led by all the negative people we have doing their best to disrupt the progress the country is making we have just recorded one of the latgest budget surplus for a ling time.
It is a pity we can not be united and proud of people who represent our country in any event. Domestically we would be doing better if people were positive and not always negative.

Yes we should be proud that we objectify women strutting around half naked, together with the publication of their measurements. The reality is, it is just a meat market.

Miss Cayman gets a KYD$70,000 scholarship from DoT, special commissioned apparel by local designers, and all-expenses paid junkets to Miss World and Miss Universe with her handlers. What is the total cost and anticipated return on investment for our invisible candidates, and this recurring government line item? The entire effort is mad delusion by a regime hovering 10 minutes from bankruptcy.

Why do women have to strut around in bikinis. It is a bloody sorry state of affairs. Can we not honour our women for who they are?

I just wish that a beautiful women won’t photoshop her face to such an extend. Or whoever did that.
