(CNS Local Life): Representatives from Trinity College School (TCS), a boarding school located in Ontario, Canada, are coming to the Cayman Islands to test and interview students applying for a full-tuition scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year. Introduced in 2015 to commemorate the school’s 150th anniversary, the merit-based scholarship offers full tuition for the next school year to a new boarding student who is a resident of Cayman.

TCS will be in Cayman from 5-7 January to meet applicants who will be entering grades 9-12 in 2019. The recipient of the Cayman Scholarship must exhibit academic excellence, leadership potential and the desire to become engaged in all aspects of the TCS community, stated a TCS press release.

Previous recipients include Joe Roberts (Class of 2011), Cameron McWatt (Class of 2015) and Zororo Mutomba (Class of 2019). There are currently 17 Cayman students enrolled at TCS, which is a boarding and day school with a student body of 580 comprising grades 5-12.

While attending TCS, current scholarship recipient Mutomba was appointed by the headmaster, based on a vote of all students and staff, to hold the position of head prefect for the current academic year. The position is the “most prestigious student leadership position at TCS with one male and one female graduating student selected each year”, said the school in the press release.

“I am so fortunate to have received the Cayman Islands Scholarship because without it I would not have attended TCS and had the opportunities I have had here,” said Mutomba. “I have made friendships I know will last a long time…I have found mentors in different teachers and the overwhelming amount of support at TCS has helped me better myself academically. I would not trade the time I have had at TCS for anything and that is why I am so grateful to have received this scholarship.”

Students from Cayman first began attending Trinity College School in the early 1980s and the TCS Cayman branch includes 132 alumni, students, and past and current parents.

Interested Caymanian residents should email Kathy LaBranche, TCS director of admissions. For more information about the school, go to the TCS website
