(CNS Local Life:): Girlguiding Cayman Islands (GGCI) will be holding its fourth annual Guiding the Way 5K/10K run/walk on Saturday, 23 February. The event is organised to raise awareness of the organisation to attract more girls and leaders to participate as well as promote health and wellness in the community.

The event will start by the Holiday Inn on Safehaven Drive, with walkers setting off at 6:30am and runners 15 minutes later. Registration on the day begins at 6am; the fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10, and includes refreshments and entry into a raffle. The organisers have requested that participants do not bring their dogs. All proceeds will benefit Girlguiding Cayman Islands. To register online go to CaymanActive.

GGCI is a branch association of the largest female organisation in the world, stated a press release, and “works towards the positive development of girls and young women in the Cayman Islands”.

The organisation helps girls gain life skills, by teaching them leadership and values as they take part in fun activities, the release said, adding, “The girls engage as they build their confidence, discover their full potential and make a positive difference in our community.”

Girls can join Girlguiding from age 5 in the Rainbow section and then move up through Brownies, Guides and Rangers.

For more information and to volunteer go to the Girlguiding website or Facebook Page, or email Allison Taylor, GGCI commissioner, at ataylor2005@hotmail.com
