(CNS Local Life): Cayman Islands’ legislators joined community members at the 23rd annual Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast, held Wednesday, 6 February. Attending the event for the first time, Governor Martyn Roper addressed those gathered, emphasising Cayman Islands’ healthy democracy and role-model characteristics in the region, stated a government press release.

Speaker of the House McKeeva Bush, in welcoming everyone, noted that the tradition of holding the event was started by prominent Caymanian Dr Edlin Merren at a time when the LA was a divided House in need of prayer and camaraderie. He added the event’s attendance was the best one so far.

Councillor Austin Harris was the master of ceremonies, with scripture readings by Councillor Barbara Conolly on behalf of Premier Alden McLaughlin, Acting Chief Justice Hon. Richard Williams and MLA Kenneth Bryan.

Prayers were led by Carmen Conolly from East End (corporate prayer); CI Baptist Church Pastor, Dr Randall Von Kanel (thanksgiving); St George’s Anglican Church’s Rev. Mary Graham (for families); United Church Moderator Rev. Christopher Mason (for national leaders); and Journey Ministries Cayman Senior Leader, Pastor Felix Manzanares (for young people).

Guest speaker Pastor Alson Ebanks of Church of God (Chapel) underscored that with greater power comes greater responsibility and accountability, rather than greater privileges, the press release stated.

Following a vote of thanks by Gloria McField-Nixon, Chief Officer in the Portfolio of Civil Service, Pastor James R. Arch gave the benediction.

Musical items included the National Anthem by Anika Connolly, National Song by Diana DeMacardo, a solo by Rev. Ambassador Sylvia Wilks, as well as hymns and songs by the gathering, led by Bush who was accompanied by organist Katherine Jackson.

This is a bit of a farce when we see various members not adhereing to any such doctorine, e.g consuming so much liquor that they have to be assisted out of establishments, more or less dragged to a car and driven home, tales of inappropriate touching, etc.

“Cayman Islands’ healthy democracy and role-model characteristics in the region”…or what even the cloud fairies would call, “alternative facts”.
