(CNS Local Life): The second annual Coconut Cup paddleboard-racing event is being held Sunday, 10 March with all proceeds going to Hart for Hearts, the paediatric arm of the Cayman Heart Fund, which raises public awareness and provides financial assistance to families in Cayman when their child is born with a congenital heart defect.

The family-friendly event, at Public Beach, includes a joint parent and kids’ paddle (under 14s only), a team corporate cup and an individual 1.5-mile sprint.

Entry for the parent and kids costs $25 per team, with registration open from 8:30am on event day, and the half-mile race starting at 9am. Parents are requested to bring life vests for the kids and there will be paddleboards for hire.

For the corporate cup comprising relay teams of four, each individual has to paddle for half a mile, using the same board, which will be provided. The paddlers have to carry a designated coconut the entire race for a successful finish. Entry costs $350 per team with the race starting at 10am. The event is limited to 16 teams.

All paddle vessels are encouraged for the 1.5-mile sprint, which costs $25 to enter. Registration opens at 10:30am and the race begins at 11am. Paddleboards will be available for hire.

Winners of each race will get prizes and there will also be spot prizes awarded. Corporate teams must register in advance, and early registration is encouraged for individuals.
