Cayman adds to gold medals at Special Olympics

(CNS Local Life): The athletes representing Cayman Islands in the Special Olympics World Games being held in Abu Dhabi added more medals to their achievements Monday, 18 March, with Tessa Terry taking gold in the 100m run to accompany her first place in the 200m over the weekend. In addition, Cayman’s men finished strong in the 400m, with two gold medals.

Jaheim Ebanks and Matthew Ebanks both notched first place in the 400m and Lewin Solomon, Jr earned bronze, with all three recording personal bests in their times.

Previously unavailable results confirmed Alec Cox as the fourth-place finisher in the 1500m open-water swim on Saturday, 16 March, clocking 29.01 for a new personal best in that event.

Back in the pool on Monday were Keanu McKenzie and Matthew Javier, who finished first and fourth, respectively in the 200m breaststroke.

On Tuesday (19 March) track athlete Jordan McLean is entered in the 100m run; swimmers Alec Cox, Rasheed Lawrence and Kanza Bodden are participating in the 800m freestyle; Dayana Powery is in the 100m freestyle; and the unified sports doubles team of Khalid Arana and Nadesha Kelly will be competing in bocce ball.

To date, the Cayman Islands team has earned five gold, four silver and four bronze medals.
