Prince Charles officially opens the new pool on Cayman Brac

(CNS Local Life): The Prince of Wales had a busy morning of events in the Sister Islands Thursday, starting on Cayman Brac, where he arrived courtesy of Cayman Airways Express. While the Duchess of Cornwall attended various events in George Town on Grand Cayman, Charles started with a ribbon-cutting at the new swimming pool at the Cayman Brac Sports Complex, followed by a short reception, before heading off to Little Cayman to visit the Central Caribbean Marine Institute.

The prince is well known as an outspoken advocate for the environment, and as he was hearing all about the work at CCMI to save coral reefs, environmental activists on Grand Cayman erected banners and posters across the street from Government House, where the royal couple stayed during their brief visit. The goal was to attract attention to the ongoing environmental threats being posed to Cayman’s marine environment by local development.

In the afternoon the Prince of Wales continued with environmental themes. After a short visit to the Clifton Hunter High School, the heir to the British throne attended the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park in North Side, named after his mother, where he learned about the many projects there, including the ongoing work to protect the critically endangered and iconic blue iguana.
