(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Islands Government is hosting the largest-ever Public Safety Recruitment Fair and Expo on Thursday, 16 May, at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) Sir Vassel Johnson Hall, from 10am-3pm for students and 4pm-7 pm for adults. Eight departments which deal with public safety will be participating in the fair.

The joint drive will be hosted by the Cayman Islands Coast Guard, the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control, the Cayman Islands Fire Service, the Department of Public Safety Communications, the Health Services Authority, HM Cayman Islands Prison Service, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and Workforce Opportunities Residency Cayman (WORC).

Those attending will be able to speak one-on-one with representatives of the various departments and learn more about the variety of public safety career opportunities each agency has to offer, stated a press release. WORC leaders will also be available to meet with employers and job seekers wanting to register with the department’s new online platform.

During the event, staff members will deliver brief presentations and perform live demonstrations that showcase their specialist skills.

The fair will also feature workshops for job seekers that will focus on resume writing and interview skills, as well as social media in the workplace and how a person’s online presence can impact their employment opportunities, the release said.

“Although each of the departments participating in this year’s event has their own specialisations, they all have a common thread which is to protect and serve,” Premier Alden McLaughlin said. “This is a great opportunity for the public to learn more about the variety (of) career opportunities in public safety available in the Cayman Islands, and I strongly encourage interested persons to accept the challenge and be an everyday hero for your community.”

The Public Safety Recruitment Fair and Expo is free and open to all members of the public, with the first 1,000 attendees receiving a tote bag.
