(CNS Local Life): The fourth PwC Junior Tennis Circuit, held 3-5 May, gave young players in three different age groups a chance to show off their skills as they competed in matches organised by the Tennis Federation of the Cayman Islands (TFCI) and hosted by the Courts at The Ritz-Carlton.

Tournament director Uli Hoppe said of the matches, “It’s always great to see players in the 14 and under and 18 and under divisions grinding it out on the red clay courts but also it’s great to see the 10 and unders in some amazing matches on the blue hard courts.”

Leo Frank, in the 10 and under category, made “an impressive run throughout the tournament and won in a dramatic final against Noah Mitten”, stated a TFCI press release. The match was “nail bitingly close” with a final score of 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Alex Linkowski won the third-place match and Mico Samson won the consolation draw. Overall there was some great tennis shown in the 10 and under group, the TFCI said, with some “fantastic rallies” due to the slower green dot balls.

In the 14 and under division, Rafael Wejbora won his first title in a tight match against top seed Albert Berksoy, 6-3, 2-6, 10-4. Third place went to Phin Ellison and the winner of the consolation draw was Josh Richardson. After the singles final all four boys played an entertaining doubles match with Wejbora and Berksoy ultimately winning 8-6 in a pro set.

In the 18 and under group Jake Booker once again dominated the field, beating Lauren Fullerton 6-3, 6-3 in the final. Third place went to Oscar Bjuroe and Willow Wilkinson won the consolation draw.

After the final, Fullerton and Wilkinson took on Booker and Bjuroe in doubles, with the boys pulling an 8-5 victory.

Overall, it was a great tournament with a competitive level of play from all players and sunny weather throughout the whole weekend, the TFCI said.

The next tournament is scheduled for 30 August-1 September at the Courts at the Ritz-Carlton.
