Kemar Hyman to carry the flag for Cayman

Kemar Hyman will lead the Cayman delegation at the opening parade

(CNS Local Life): Cayman sprinter Kemar Hyman has been named the Cayman Islands flag bearer for the opening ceremony this evening of the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. He will competing in the 100m later in the Games, as track events are not beginning in earnest until 6 August.

In addition to Hyman, gymnast Raegan Rutty and sailor Jesse Jackson are already at the Games and will be participating in the opening ceremony, which will start at 6pm. The remainder of the delegation that will be representing Cayman at the event comprises Angel Rutty, gymnastics manager; Edward Umphrey, gymnastics coach; Raphael Harvey, sailing coach; Eilidh Bridgeman, chef de mission; and Jade Webster, press attaché. Carson Ebanks, Cayman Islands Olympic Committee secretary-general, will be cheering them on from the stands.

About 50,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony at the National Stadium tonight, at which the delegations of the participating 41 countries will be marching in a parade. The entertainment will feature more than 1,700 people performing on stage, including a variety of singers, dancers, acrobats and musicians.

Cayman swimmers Brett Fraser, Lauren Hew and John Bodden are expected to arrive at the end of the month so will miss the official opening of the Games; Hew and Bodden are competing at the 18th FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea and the swimming events in Lima are not scheduled to start until 6 August.
